 BY   CLIMBERS

Ray's is run by a small team of two people!

We live together in our van full time whilst creating unique, functional, and sustainable products for rock climbers, boulderers, and lovers of the outdoors - all from our small studio in Ardleigh.

Between the two of us we have experienced 13 years climbing and bouldering both on plastic and real rocks, 11 years of climbing instruction and coaching, 2 years of route setting, and substantial experience managing 2 UK climbing centres.

With our combined experience we're CERTAIN we know how to make an EXCEPTIONAL climbing product that encompasses the unique needs of climbers and boulderers alike.

 FOR   CLIMBERS

 ALWAYS HANDMADE

 ALWAYS SUSTAINABLE

We prioritise SUSTAINABILITY and slow fashion, that's why we professionally handcraft our products from REPURPOSED and RECLAIMED materials.

Our fabric products like chalk bags and chalk buckets are made from -

  • Remnants and scraps from local haberdasheries and businesses

  • Reclaimed fabrics from damaged items (curtains, clothing, etc.)

  • Second-hand fabrics from local sellers

  • Deadstock fabrics destined for landfill

Whenever we create products from fabrics bought new, we always sustainably buy from small local businesses.

A ray's climbing chalk bag with a rubber ducks pattern sits on the bouldering pads, in the background the annual BOFF competition at Flashpoint Swindon is underway, with boulderers eyeing up the problems and route setters making adjustments.
A chalk bucket made by Ray's Climbing is sat on some bouldering pads in Flashpoint Swindon, the background shows an indoor climbing wall covered in climbing holds. The chalk bucket is made from multiple panels of different coloured waxed canvas, it has a strong magnetic closure and secure roll top, a large front pocket with a stylish squiggle opening, it is fleece lined, and has three brush loops on the back.
Bundles of retired climbing rope ready to be transformed into a new product by Ray's Climbing. Rather than heading to landfill, these will end up back in circulation as a sustainable hardwearing product that is sure to last a lifetime.
Two bowls made from retired climbing ropes sit atop the bouldering mats at the Colchester Climbing project, an indoor bouldering gym. The background shows an indoor bouldering wall covered in colourful climbing holds.

Climbing equipment has a limited lifespan and since most equipment is made from durable long-lasting materials, sending them to landfill is

NOT AN OPTION.

We work hand-in-hand with climbing gyms, outdoor pursuits centres, and eco-conscious individuals/groups across the UK to REPURPOSE RETIRED CLIMBING EQUIPMENT, such as ropes and harnesses!

Ropes and harnesses find new life as wallets, bowls, coasters, keyrings, belts, and more!

 WE ARE

 ZERO MATERIAL WASTE

From climbing rope cores to fabric scraps and thread, all of it is saved!

If we can't create something new from our materials due to excessive damage or simply being too small, we make sure to keep every last scrap (including snipped threads) and use them as stuffing for beanbags which we then pass to family, friends, and small local businesses we have partnered with to reduce their material waste!

Unfortunately we don't sell our fabric scrap bean bags as they are far too heavy to ship, BUT if you are local to Essex and would like to commission a custom item for LOCAL PICKUP then please get in touch.
